Common Questions and Answer

Refrigerator Question: Why is my fridge making a loud buzzing noise? Answer: Buzzing sounds in Frigidaire, Samsung, or GE refrigerators are often caused by a failing evaporator fan motor or a vibrating condenser coil. If the noise changes when the door is opened, it’s likely related to the evaporator area.

Washer Question: Why does my front-load washer smell bad even after cleaning? Answer: Musty odors in LG, Whirlpool, and Electrolux washers are often caused by mold or residue buildup in the door gasket and detergent dispenser. Running a hot tub clean cycle with an affresh tablet and leaving the door open between loads can help.

Dryer Question: Why is my dryer making a high-pitched squealing sound? Answer: This noise in Maytag, GE, or Samsung dryers is usually due to a worn idler pulley, drum roller, or drive belt. Ignoring the sound can lead to complete motor or belt failure over time.

Dishwasher Question: Why do my dishes come out cloudy or still dirty? Answer: In Bosch, KitchenAid, and LG dishwashers, hard water buildup, a clogged spray arm, or a malfunctioning detergent dispenser may be to blame. Using rinse aid and cleaning the filter regularly can improve results.

Oven Question: Why does my oven smell like gas when I turn it on? Answer: A brief odor is normal in Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and GE gas ovens as gas ignites. However, if the smell lingers or the oven doesn’t light promptly, it may be due to a faulty igniter or delayed spark.

Refrigerator Compressor Short Cycling In Samsung, LG, and Whirlpool units, this occurs when the compressor turns on and off rapidly, often due to a failing inverter board, faulty thermistor, or low refrigerant pressure from a micro-leak in the sealed system. This issue can also be caused by a weak PTC relay that cannot maintain the startup voltage long enough for full compressor engagement.

Washer Motor Control Board (MCU) Failure Seen in Bosch, Whirlpool Duet, and Electrolux front-load washers, this occurs when the MCU cannot properly regulate motor speed, resulting in spin cycle failures or no agitation. Symptoms include random stopping, drum shaking, or F06 and F11 fault codes depending on the model.

Dryer Overheating Due to Grounded Heating Element Common in Frigidaire, GE, and Samsung dryers, this happens when the heating element coil physically touches the metal housing, causing it to heat continuously without thermostat regulation. This can lead to a blown thermal cutoff fuse, scorched clothing, or melted plastic inside the drum cavity.

Dishwasher Circulation Motor Failing Under Load In Bosch, KitchenAid, and Samsung dishwashers, this issue arises when the circulation pump runs during diagnostic mode but fails during a full wash cycle. A partially shorted motor winding or internal resistance causes it to stall when under normal water load pressure.

Oven Control Board Voltage Drop During Bake Cycle Found in Whirlpool, GE, and Frigidaire ovens, this problem occurs when weak solder joints or a failing relay on the control board interrupt voltage to the bake element intermittently. You may observe the oven preheat correctly, then slowly lose temperature during use, with no error codes.

Range Infinite Switch Arc Failure on Electric Cooktops This issue in Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and Maytag coil ranges results from internal carbonized contacts in the infinite switch, which cause the burner to heat uncontrollably or fail to regulate heat. Voltage to the element stays locked in high even on low settings.

Microwave Capacitor Discharge Arcing In Sharp, GE, and Panasonic microwaves, a failing high-voltage capacitor can discharge improperly, creating arcing sounds and visible sparks from the magnetron area. This is often paired with a failed high-voltage diode or weakened magnetron filament.

Garbage Disposal Impeller Plate Weld Separation On older InSinkErator and Waste King models, the impeller plate welds can weaken, allowing the impellers to rotate freely instead of flinging food waste. This significantly reduces grinding efficiency and may cause loud rattling under operation.

Freezer Thermistor Misread Due to Ice Encapsulation Seen in Samsung, LG, and GE upright and French-door freezers, this issue occurs when ice builds up around the thermistor, giving falsely low readings. The control board interprets the freezer as colder than it is and reduces compressor run time, resulting in temperature rise and soft-frozen items.

Ice Maker Auger Motor Strain and Stalling Brands like KitchenAid, GE, and Frigidaire can experience auger motor failure when ice bridges or partially melted cubes refreeze, increasing torque beyond motor capacity. This may cause the dispenser to click or hum without moving ice and eventually burn out the motor windings or strip the coupler.
